Agnieszka Ewa Latawiec holds a Bachelor of Environmental Protection Engineering, a Master of Environmental Protection and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia (UK). Agnieszka is Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), co-founder and Executive Director of the International Institute of Sustainability of Rio de Janeiro (IIS), in addition to being the coordinator of the Science Center for Conservation and Sustainability of the River (CSRio/PUC-Rio). Always interested in the social aspects of land management, during her PhD, she developed research in England and Wales to investigate the incorporation of bioavailability in decision-making about contaminated areas. In 2013, she participated in the design of the first subject on Sustainability Science at PUC-Rio. Agnieszka is interested in various topics related to sustainability. In recent years, she has focused on broader aspects of land management. Within this aspect, she participated or led several projects related to changes in land use and modeling. It pursues collaborative interdisciplinary research on topics including sustainability science and sustainability indicators, soil science, land management, environmental decision making, and land use change.
